Captivity, a short film

“Captivity” addresses ideas of confinement, adaptability, and what it means to be captive–in one’s own land and skin–in a neocolonial America.

Background audio capture is sourced from a walk beneath Ai Wei Wei’s dragon installation at the “At Large” exhibit on Alcatraz Island, 2015. All visual footage was captured at various locations in Northern California, both in “wild” rivers and lagoons, the Pacific Ocean, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium (jellyfish footage). The excerpted reading is from A Bell Made of Stones, TinFish Press, 2013.
